Went down MOE today to collect a hardcopy of my deferment letter. Was hoping to see my scholarship officer. No hidden agenda though, please don't miscontrue my intentions. I just want to put a face to the intriguing name: Yunn Goh. When i first saw 'Goh Yunn' on the M.sc bond suspension form, i thought it was a corruption/typo error of 'Goh Yun Ting'. Well, it turns out that 'Yunn' is her christian name. Haha ignorant me. Anyway, unique names aside, she's probably the most efficient officer i have ever encountered. Practically all my emails are replied within 24 hours and she seems patient enough as well. Most people would have been pretty annoyed by me haha i kinda applied for the MOE bond suspension only to retract it later cause i decided not to continue with my M.sc. Seriously, MOE should have more of such people around.
Speaking of M.sc, i think i can finally comprehend how ym and xh felt the last time. I was trying hard to persuade them to continue with their masters. Ironically, at the end of the day, i couldn't quite persuade myself either. NUS research scholarship might sound really prestigious but really at 1.5K a month (for 2 years), taking into consideration the waivered tution fees as well, i think its economically more worthwhile to pursue part - time coursework M.sc in future even if it means paying my own tuition fees. This, i believe, TW has highlighted before. Besides, MOE doen't pay more for M.sc grads and i don't think the distinguish btw M.sc by research and M.sc by coursework. While some might argue that a M.sc. cert ushers in better prospects but hey, how do you quantify the supposed 'increase in job prospects' - 2E10% higher chance of promotion? Given the inherent incertainty and the multiple variables influencing 'job prospects', i think its better to make to adopt a wait and see atitude before making any time and financial commitment i.e. whether a M.sc cert is truly a worthy investment. At the end of the day i might just do coursework M.sc. out of interest though.
Did quite abit of walking today. Looking around for a new camera although i will probably wait for the PC fair on 12-15 June before deciding. Think i will get fujifilm's S5800 which has 10X optical zoom, don't ask me why i need so much zoom hehe, i'm just a typical guy with a fetish for large numbers haha. Was tempted to buy a new badminton racquet as well haha, can't figure out why i keep losing to lousy players like xh (must be my racquet lousy or perhaps the shuttlecock haha) who's probably enjoying right now in Europe. Man, the freaking humid weather really sucks here in Singapore, i miss japan where its cool and comfy.
Hopefully we are going to get time off after NIE. Hoping to go back japan this time next year or climb Mt kinabalu. This time, we are going to climb some real mountains. Yeah, i just like the cold, crisp air filling my lungs. Beats being in this screwed up weather.
To conclude, ym must go plan next week programme k. Badmintom + Bukit Timah / Hortpark. I will probably get a carbon racquet that i have always wanted haha. Its time to train before xh comes back.
