Yoz Yoz Yoz, Happy New Year everybody.
Just came back from my aunt's place. Went down to chinatown yesterday. Not that i enjoy the crowd but rather going there annually seems to be more of a tradition in-grained in me. It's certainly more than just a habit though. i guess i just go back there every year to re-live that sense of nostalgia and reflect on everything that has happened in the past year. The gentle night breeze, the neon lights, the empty mrt train...somehow everthing seem to conspire to evoke this spirit of remniscence. That place brings new insights eveytime i'm there as well...like how fortunate we are when i saw some old uncle cycling down the busy road with a whole load of cardboards behind.
Anyway, got some waxed duck, pineapple tarts, love-letters, muay chee etc while we were there. Talking about waxed duck, i think we skipped that for a year or two because we felt it was rather expensive in the past few years i.e. the price wasn't really justified. This year we bought 4 drumsticks for $20, not too sure if you consider that expensive but i can still remember the duck used to cost like 3 (drumsticks) for $10. Well, i guess the inflation's normal, we just have to get used to it. Seems like not many people enjoy waxed duck though. I can still remember when my parents brought me waxed duck when i was in Tekong; man, that was the taste of home...seriously.
Ok...life has been really mundane and i think i'm starting to acquire a taste or rather a need for coffee. Oh well, so be it.
Seeing my niece and nephews, i can't help but think i'm actually quite old haha which makes me feel a bit embarrased when i receive ang-pow from my cousins haha. Oh well, i'm also starting to ponder how would it be like when i finally settle down and bring my own family down to chinatown haha. Oh well, think's there more to be done before that day finally arrives.
Here's a picture of the Budhha Relic Temple i took last night. It was grand, not unlike those ancient palaces you see in dramas hehe.
